China is once again suffering enormous challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the automotive industry one of the first to be hit by the epidemic, while rumors swirl online about the Beijing Exhibition being postponed since last month. The decision to postpone this year's Beijing exhibition was just confirmed, with Exhibition authorities stating through China's WeChat platform that this year's edition of the Beijing exhibition will actually be postponed, though no new date was stated.
The Beijing International Auto Show was scheduled to take place from April 21 to 30, 2022, one week after the New York International Auto Show, which starts on April 13, 2022. The Beijing exhibition, which is held twice a year and attended by many important companies, is the first destination for new and upcoming releases. At the 2022 edition of the Beijing Expo, the following editions were expected to be unveiled:
- The next generation of BMW 7 series
- Electric version of BMW i7
- Mercedes-Benz EQS new SUV
Volkswagen also plans to release the production version of the ID Vizzion concept, which will be built on its MEB platform and will be available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, however it should be noted that the vehicle is still in development under the name Aero-B.
It is likely to see the cars that were planned to debut in Beijing through online revealing shows in the latter part of the month; however, no information has been verified as to whether the show would be rescheduled later in 2022.
