Are you at least 18 years old and a citizen of Jordan? Have you prepared for and completed any driving school lessons? This article will take you step-by-step through the procedure, from visiting one of the offices that handle driver and vehicle licensing, which are spread out across the Kingdom from north to south, until you have a license that enables you to legally drive a car.
Required Documents
You should get one or more copies of the following documents ready before going to the nearest driver and vehicle licensing department, given that you will need these before taking the theoretical or practical driving tests:
- Civil status ID, valid passport, or military appointment certificate
- A recent colored passport-sized photo (4×6)
- Flag service book for males born in 1989 and above
- A certificate of competency from one of the licensed training centers with (20) theoretical lessons and (40) practical lessons
- Translation of the foreign license if the license is in a language other than Arabic and English
How can you easily get the license?
Once you arrive at the licensing department with the necessary official documents, you can start with the following procedures:
- Get a service submission form by reaching out the Public Service Office
- The form must be handed over to the public employee for preliminary checking after being filled out with the documents
- Take the medical examination to seal the transaction
- If you have a license in another category, you should confirm that you are clear of any existing fines
- Comprehensive employee review for the purposes of paying the prescribed fees
Theoretical Examination
The theoretical driving examination evaluates the candidate's knowledge of the laws and priorities that make driving on the road safer. If you successfully pass the examination, you can make an appointment for the practical examination. In case of failure, the theoretical examination shall be submitted at least two weeks after paying the prescribed fees.
Practical Examination
Here are some criteria that the examiner uses to evaluate a driver's potential to pass the practical test and perform well in actual driving circumstances:
- Starting the car and moving
- Using the right gearshift
- Dealing with traffic elements
- Parking and sudden stops
- Following traffic signs, traffic lights, and lanes
- Following priorities and cross-roads rules
- Dealing with road curves and turns
- Dealing with road heights and slopes
- Overtaking cars
- Turning
- Reversing and Parking
If failing, a notification of the mistakes you made during the examination is given by the Chairman of the Practical Examination Committee, and then you have the right to apply for the examination again after a period of no less than 14 days after paying the prescribed fees.
If passing the examination, the transaction is received by the chairman and member of the committee to the receptionist, who checks the transaction and saves it in a special file. Review the comprehensive employee to meet the prescribed fees and issue the license.
Duration of Theoretical and Practical Examination
- The theoretical examination: 60 Minutes
- The practical examination: 15 Minutes
- Issuance of the license: 9-15 Minutes
How much does it cost to get a Jordanian driving license?
- Theoretical re-examination: 10 JOD
- The practical re-examination: 15 JOD
- Transaction fees for the first time: 26.50 JOD
- Issuance fees for issuing a license for the first time for ten years: 33.20 JOD
