This announcement aims to unite traffic safety efforts, ensure the fulfillment of duties and responsibilities, and stay up to date with the latest developments in traffic and transportation. This can be attributed to a rise in accident rates recently in Jordan, which regrettably resulted in the loss of numerous lives.

We will discuss below the most prominent violations that have been amended in Jordan traffic law:

  • Those who use their phone while driving will face a fine of JD 50.
  • Running a red light can lead to imprisonment for 1 to 2 months, along with a fine ranging from JD 200-300. If the violation is repeated within the same year, the penalty will be doubled.
  • Drivers of public vehicles will be subject to a JD 10 if they smoke while driving, and the same penalty applies if they allow passengers to smoke.
  •  Driving at a speed exceeding (50) km/h above the speed limit now carries a penalty of imprisonment for 1 to 3 months and a fine of JD 100. If the violation is repeated within the same year, the fine will be doubled.
  • Fines varying between JD 50 and JD 100 will now be imposed on vehicle processions during celebrations.
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol: Punishment includes a jail term ranging from 1 to 3 months, or a monetary penalty ranging from JD250 to JD500, or a combination of both penalties.

-It should be noted that the draft law grants Public Security personnel the authority to conduct alcohol and drug tests when drivers are apprehended. Some reports suggested that since Jordan Traffic Law is approved, we will see a decrease in the number of violations, as well as traffic accidents.
